The Chicago River at Onscreen

In this summer like no other, we are honored and thrilled that "The Chicago River" is one of nineteen films from a field of 150 entries selected for Chicago Onscreen Local Film Showcase, as part of the Chicago Park District's Movies in the Parks program. Since 2014, this Local Film Showcase has been supporting hometown movies featuring, speaking to, and relevant for Chicago.

The film, released last year, features beautiful historic glass plate images of the reversal of the Chicago River at the turn on the 20th century, brought to life by Orbert Davis' original full orchestral composition and the blending of classical and jazz. The result is a gripping commentary on how a rising city changed the direction of a mighty river and, in so doing, evolved into a vast metropolis.

"The Chicago River" will be featured on Saturday, September 5 at a socially distanced screening at Ping Tom Memorial Park Boathouse. Screenings begin at 8:00pm. Alternatively, there will be a virtual option for the entire film festival to view from the comfort of your home.
