Creative Jazz: A Story of Today, Tomorrow & Yesterday

Nicole Mitchell is a creative flutist and composer. Mitchell's group, Black Earth Ensemble performs an interactive musical program in which each song tells a story that relates to the African American musical legacy—its past, present and future. A multi-generational ensemble, Black Earth's music celebrates a weaving of swing, blues, avante garde jazz, bebop, African rhythms, Eastern modes and Western classical sounds.
