Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and River North Dance Chicago, in partnership with Art Encounter, were joined by 25 others for an 8 day tour focusing on Cuban music and dance.
CJP and RNDC are creating a new work that re-defines music/dance collaborations by:
1) Conceiving a work together (composer and choreographer) from its infancy.
2) Reversing the process with some of the music being composed to the dance (usually dance is choreographed to the music).
3) Utilizing improvisation within both idioms.
The Cuban Project (working title) will be unveiled on Saturday, April 13, at the Auditorium Theatre.
This program is a 2012 Commission from Music/USA.
Orbert jams with Cuban percussionists, Orlando and Raul, at a dance rehearsal by Danza Contemporanea de Cuba at Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
